New Music Tuesday #109
Ari Lennox, Roc Marciano, Joyce Wrice and my upcoming tour dates.
The snowstorm really delivered this time around. I had to cancel travel plans and ended up getting snowed in with china moses since her flight got cancelled as well. She finally made her escape yesterday but I am still here suffering through the city’s freezing temperatures and wondering if my rescheduled trip for this coming weekend will be cancelled too.
Regardless of what happens with that I hear there is a nationwide general strike planned for Friday. I really hope that the GOP’s shifting their stance on the bullshit they been pulling in Minneapolis doesn’t deter anyone from participating.
SHOWS
2/2 - Frankenstein’s Baby is back
2/14 - It’s Valentine’s day and I’m at Franklin Park so you can expect some slow jams and love songs. Couples are welcome and singles are encouraged. It’s free!
I’m headed out on tour with Michelle Buteau in February and there is a pretty high chance that we will be in a city near you. I’ll be DJing and performing a few of my own songs as well. Check the dates below and come out if you can!
NEWS
It’s the good, the bad, the ugly…. (This segment reminds me of that Guru song)
GOOD - T.I. dropped a new song and even cut his hair to signal his return to the old T.I.P. he even took a photo with his signature anti-gravity hat lean for proof! (there was a point in time where this would have consumed the news cycle for at least 24 hours.)
BAD - Chad Hugo suing Pharrell over what seems to be missing royalties and other stuff involving their N.E.R.D. LLC. The Neptunes’ slow dissolution has really sucked to see. I understand people grow apart but anytime lawsuits show up in the mix it really feels final in a different way. LINK
UGLY - Kanye West took out a paid advertisement in the Wall Street Journal and used the space to write an apology letter. In brief he touched on his journey with bipolar disorder and how it relates to his racist behaviors. He also has an dropping this Friday so… yeah. In short I’ll just say that sincere or not he’s done irreparable damage and I can’t image a world where an apology ad does any material good. Go away.
VIDEO
This song has consumed me since I saw the clip of the guy dancing to it on IG a short while back. I don’t know much about the guy who made the song but I do know that he went crazy when he made this. I miss the days when a song like this would have the internet in a chokehold for weeks.
Kelly Moonstone dropped this Youtube only freestyle and it goes pretty hard. She is having fun with her shit and it’s fun to watch.
This is a pretty fire song. I think it’s a few months old but I just heard it today so I’m adding it to the newsletter.
I don’t know who Kai Ca$h is but this song is pretty fire. It’s also only available on Youtube which means I gotta post the video to share it.
The Alchemist and Roc Marciano are some of the hardest working men in music. It feels like every week they are dropping some new shit. All of it is high quality too.
I had no idea Derrick Dimitry had originally recorded Get It On Tonight before Montell Jordan. I have’t looked at the credits to compare writers or producers on the track but I do know that I had never heard this version until Meka put me on.
This was a really fun DJ set with some really great selections. I was not up on Paloma before this set but I generally trust that the Everybody Loves To Boogie channel won’t let me down..
MUSIC
New Roc Marci just dropped and word on the streets is it was #1 on the iTunes chart. I played it the other day and really enjoyed it. Roc is hilarious. Dope as hell but also he say some funny shit in his rhymes.
IDK dropped a mixtape and I haven’t got to spin it yet but I am familiar with a few songs on the tracklist. He was selling CD players that come with CD’s that have a unique bonus track to make each one different. There is also an option to test drive a land rover while listening to his album on the website. Crazy. LINK
DJ Harrison don’t miss. I haven’t heard this album yet but I can almost guarantee it will be jam packed full of jams.
Ari Lennox dropped an album. I got to skim it and it’s pretty fire. Jermaine Dupri and Bryan Micheal Cox handled the production. Btw did you know that Jermaine Dupri has a myspace page? It’s a really dope read if you haven’t checked it out yet.
BBE put up a compilation album and I haven’t heard it yet but I did rush to hear the Georgia Anne-Muldrow song and yeah, it’s worth it for that joint alone.
Dunno who Camper is and I haven’t heard this album but it’s got a pretty stacked tracklist.
SINGLES
Randomly Googled Dornik to see what he was up to and it looks like I was right on time cus he just dropped a jam.
This joint is funky.
Nappy Nina bodied this.
Joyce Wrice got a jam
Never mad at a new Cleo Sol song.

whooo...loved that Paloma dj set and definitely hyped for the DJ Harrison. Thanks for always uncovering great stuff for us!
