February is off to a running start with no plans of slowing down. We are coming fresh off of the Grammy awards and rolling right into the Superbowl. There was also a Verzuz match up between Mike Will Made It and Hit Boy and more importantly it’s Black History Month.
The Almanac of Rap is coming back at the end of the month and this is also the month where the tour with Michelle Buteau starts. I’ll be opening up the shows by performing a few songs so if you see your city be sure to pull up. It’s gonna be a good time!

NEWS
GOOD - Durand Bernarr, Nate Smith and Skillz all won Grammys. Overall I enjoyed watching the awards and the performances. Shout out to my guy Mega Ran who was nominated as well.
BAD - CBS continues to be on some Conservative BullShit as they have cancelled The Equalizer (Latifah’s show), The Neighborhood (Cedric The Enterainer’s show) and Poppa’s House (the Wayans’ family show). Notice a trend? Oh yeah and the Grammy’s are leaving CBS too.
UGLY - The Kennedy Center is closing for 2 years due to “renovations” thanks to that man putting his name on the building in a mismatched font. Hopefully his renovations don’t involve a bulldozer and wrecking ball… I hate it here.
VIDEOS
The D’Angelo tribute was by far my favorite moment from the Grammys. They need to take this show on the road and sell tickets so that I can experience it live.
Digable Planets hit Noochie’s Front Porch. I haven’t got to watch it yet but you already know they tore it down. Shout out to Blowout Comb!
GETLIVE! took a bag of 45s up to 214 Mulberry and cooked up a killer set. This set (and a nudge from my brother Parle) legitimately made me finally start the monstrous task of organizing my record collection. I’m about 1/3 of the way through and I’ve found so many gems I forgot I owned. I’m gonna share a few in the albums section.
ALBUMS
Terrace Martin dropped a new project and I haven’t heard it but it’s Terrace Martin so it’s gonna be good.
This is one of those albums I found while organizing my records. It’s a big band jazz record and while I haven’t really got to sit with it that Open Beauty joint is dying to get flipped.
Leroy Hutson replaced Curtis Mayfield in the Impressions and apparently sued Young Jeezy for “innapproprietly incorporating” elements of one of their songs. He also co-wrote The Ghetto with Donny Hathaway and there is a pretty killer version of that song on this album too. And we have the same birthday. I love wikipedia
I haven’t got to sit with this album either but I gave it a few needledrops and it’s entered ‘must listen’ territory. I genuinely don’t think I’ve heard a BB King album before either so this is excting for me. Apparently Ringo Starr is on the album.
SINGLES
Thundercat got a new album coming and this joint is groovy as hell.
Tom Misch actually put out a different song called Sisters With Me but that led me to find this song from the same upcoming album that I am more interested in
Apollo Brown making a few night moves.
Tab-One dropped a jam on em.
Khrysis linked with Pete Rock to drop this double single. Double single is a nice oxymoron.

my brother, as a fan of Tanya Morgan, and seeing yall with Little Brother in Lexington KY back in the early 2000's I've watched all you do! So glad to read these updates and catch new music choices from you. Have you heard the new song from Flea featuring Thom Yorke?
One of my favorite late-pass discoveries last year was Tom Misch's album with Yussef Dayes, "What Kinda Music" (2020). Saw Yussef Dayes at Newport Jazz Fest and had to start exploring that back catalog.
Didn't realize that Misch has a new one dropping, so thanks again!
