Listening to the RZA snippets and it raises a question: why do so many of the great producers from the 90s (RZA, Pete Rock, Primo, Large Pro, etc.) have such a tough time making good beats today? Have they gotten worse at making beats? Or is it just that our ears and expectations of what a good beat sounds like have moved beyond where they ever were? I can't even remember the last Madlib beat that really hit me.

The only 90s producer I can think of who can still produce something exciting is probably Alchemist. That's weird to me.
