I have not been using the internet right. I am supposed to be giving very polarizing takes about things as opposed to being neutral when presenting information and furthermore only presenting things that I genuinely enjoy.
So this week I’ll only be posting about stuff I deeply dislike and disagree with. For all you expecting to hear about music I’m digging and homies doing cool stuff you’ll have to check back next week.
This week we RAGE!

ALMANAC OF RAP
My latest guest on The Almanac of Rap is Shaggy. A fun fact about this episode is that the interview happened on my birthday and if you watch the interview there are a few points where he says “yall young folk” and “you kids” directed at me. Well after the interview when he found out it was my birthday and asked how I old I was he was like “My bad for calling you a kid! You are old!”
The interview was honestly more fun than I’d imagined it would be and Shaggy is hilarious. There isn’t much to hate here but if I had to pick something it would be the censored curse words. That’s a genuine gripe!
NEWS
The big news is that I’ll be on Twitch today from 4P - 6P est. It’s the resurrection of my East Village Radio show under a different name. In an effort to streamline my many different things I’m calling this iteration New Music Tuesday or NMT for short. It is essentially the audio version of this newsletter and I’ll be playing a lot of the new music that I type about here.
I haven’t done a radio show since February so there is a LOT to catch up on. You should head over to Twitch.tv/donwill and subscribe, then turn the notifications on so you don’t miss a mix. Also so you can hang out with me in real time while I play these jams.
In the event that you do miss one the archives will be on my Mixcloud Page and I’m going to try and upload the mixes to Youtube. This is an ambitious endeavor and if you have enjoyed these newsletters I ask that you take this relationship a step further and check out a stream somewhere!
*Editor’s Note: I also have a big dental appointment today and I’d like to be realistic so there is a slight chance that I won’t be going live on Twitch. The show is fully prepped and the stream has been tested so if I am not streaming you can blame my dentist!
In other news there is some sort of India Arie vs Yung Miami thing happening. Apparently India Arie has a strong opinion about Yung Miami’s song Spend Dat and a bunch of people including Uncle Luke and Trick Daddy have ran to defend the song as well as diss India Arie. The thing that nobody is really talking about though is that the song is basically a rip off of a wgft by Gunna. I don’t listen to Gunna at all but I found out when I was watching a video where Yung Miami talked about how she made the song.
And if you want to know how I feel about the song I’ll tell you; I hate that I know this much about a song that I don’t care about. Is it the song of the Summer? Probably. Does that mean I have to like it? Nope. But I’m glad the low vibration folks got a jam to rock out to.
The above video is a two-for as it ties in the current Lupe fiasco that is heating up the internet as well. That pun was intended.
You know what else I hate? Old rappers’ love of AI. From flyers to videos to reposts it’s an epidemic!
(Man this hating on things stuff is fun, I see why the internet responds to it)
VIDEOS
XXL dropped their 2026 Freshman Class Freestyles Trailer and I’m just realizing that while I was at the BET Awards I did quick interviews with Babyface E, Hurricane Wisdom, Miles Minnick and LaReezy and they hey were all pretty cool dudes. The Freshman Class rollout is always interesting because they do this other thing where they force the featured artists to read comments from ppl who are just hating on them.
I think this fills the quota for my ‘hate takes’. I do appreciate how they all took it in stride and while I’m not familiar with all of their music I do know what most of their stuff sounds like and while I know it’s fun to hate on what the kids are doing it all sounds pretty normal.
Okay just a little hate, I hate that the year we made XXL Freshman cover was the last year they did rap groups. The fuck kinda shit is that?!
There is so much going on here. Lil Jon? Ying Yang? Death Row Records? A Too Much Booty In The Pants flip? So. Much. Is. Going. ON. Overall tho this is a fun song. It feels like the old timey objectification and not the new age objectification and that feels quaint in an age of post put molly all in her drink hip hop.
Thurz and 14KT dropped a really dope video for this banger of a cut. I really think we need to take some time out to appreciate the body of work Thurz has made over the years. From UNI to Dre to solo he been working for years and it’s all quality!
This video reminds me of driving around Cincinnati with the homies. We didn’t have a caravan of cars this deep but we did have a little 2-3 car pack and I really miss those days. This song is a jam too.
